I wish someone would have told me that it was a bit scary. My husband did a few really brilliant things like the day Thomas was born and friends started to call up to come and visit he got a diary out and started planning time slots for when people were going to visit. I was a bit annoyed I thought it was crazy because our house was always open to friends, but actually I'm so glad he did because it meant that we didn't get descended upon which would have been quite frightening and all too much, so instead we had a steady trickle of friends, and Chris kept some afternoons free when he said we were busy so we had lots of time on our own. I wish I'd filled my freezer up with food, I wish I'd taken everybody's advice and slept when Thomas slept, which I didn't, I was still dead-set on cleaning the bathroom and doing the washing and all these things that don't really matter. I wish I'd chilled out a little bit more, but it's still an amazing time and I don't think anybody would ever forget the first weeks at home with their baby because it's lovely, really.
My husband booked timeslots for friends
Kate would have been better prepared and more relaxed.
