Over coffee this morning, my friend Juliette revealed her favourite product - Sophie the Giraffe (or should I say Sophie la Girafe - she's French). Born in France in 1961, little rubber Sophie is soft and flexible and designed for squeezing and chewing. William's eyes lit up and he went straight in for a nibble. I don't blame him - she's far more appealing than a ring.

I came straight home and ordered our own Sophie online, resisting a number of other great products also designed by Vulli including the Magic Tree (remember that one, 70s babies?).

Visit www.sophielagirafe.co.uk. You can also buy Sophie from Amazon, John Lewis or Kiddicare.
