One in four middle class families will give up their holidays Jill Insley

A survey of 2000 respondents by Experian has found that 28% of middle class families will forgo their annual holiday this year as the recession hits home. Of those intending to holiday still, 28% will stay in the UK.

Experian also found that Brits intend to spend an average of £1,281 on flights and accomodation this year - a drop of £891 from the previous year.

The research also found that people intend to spend less and get more for their money, with 68% of those surveyed saying they will actively seek better customer service and more value for money.

Nigel Wilson, managing director of Experian Marketing Information Services, UK & Ireland, said: "Our latest analysis sends a clear message to the travel industry, and brands as a whole, that middle Britain's modern consumers will be more demanding than ever before and want more for their hard-earned cash.
