When you start shopping for 'baby goods' you'll see play mats all over the place. Also known as baby gyms and activity mats, these are basically padded mats with toys suspended from a Wembley Stadium style arch.
Little babies love to lie on them and reach for the toys above and, when they're sitting up you can generally remove the arch and use the mat as a safe, padded place to play.
There are so many to choose from - you just need to decide how much you're prepared to spend. The more expensive options generally just include a few more bells and whistles like classical music players.
