Baby frozen to save her life Telegraph Staff

From Daily Telegraph

While in labour at Peterborough District Hospital last year, Rachel Claxton's placenta ruptured and became detached, resulting in a loss of oxygen and blood supply to her baby's body.

Ella was born stillborn but doctors at Peterborough District Hospital worked for 25 minutes to revive her until they detected a heartbeat.

Due to worries of brain damage, Ella was moved to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where doctors employed a new technique which induces a state of hypothermia to reduce the risk of swelling around her brain.

At 11 days old, she was finally allowed to return home and scans have shown no brain abnormalities.
