
Men whose partner has given birth will be urged to play a greater role in the antenatal and postnatal care of mothers and their newborn babies by spending more time with them.
As well as asking fathers to stay overnight on maternity wards, they will be advised to attend pre-birth scans and medical appointments with the expectant mother, it is reported.
Antenatal and parenting classes should be arranged around men's work and sporting commitments, while maternity wards will be urged to provide men's lifestyle magazines to help new fathers feel more at ease.
