Just don’t insult them by calling them housewives.

Two-thirds of mothers who have given up work detest the term ‘housewife’ and prefer to be described as a ‘stay-at-home mum’, a study has revealed.

They believe the housewife label has ‘negative connotations’ and trivialises their role. A third feel it is ‘insulting’.

Jenny S says that in the 70s women didn't really have the option to combine motherhood and careers and staying at home was expected of you.

Do you care what you call yourself? Does the word housewife make you think of wife swapping parties and woman chained to the kitchen sink? Isn't a SAHM just a housewife by another name?
