Parents are fuelling truancy rates by taking their children out of school for cut-price holidays in term time, officials said yesterday.
Some 24,000 pupils miss classes every school day to go on a family holiday, according to official figures from the Department for Education.
Over the course of a year 4.5million days of schooling are missed due to youngsters going away on package deals.
