The Friday Rant Club - sleep inequality sucks Hannah/Muddling Along

Is there anything that is quite as divisive within a relationship as the fact (or perception?) that one parenting partner is getting more sleep than the other?

From comparisons of the length of lie ins to the trade off between getting up early with the monsters for a decent afternoon nap, sleep is the one key bone of contention.

We’re on holiday (in case you haven’t noticed) and any holiday without a break from it all isn’t really a break.

I came into this holiday shattered – mentally, physically and emotionally. I needed a break and a rest.

When getting time off and time to sleep goes tit for tat, like for like, turn and turn about it is fine – everyone gets a rest, everyone feels fine.

When one half of the partnership seems to be getting more than their share everything does not feel fine and one half starts to get really narked.

I’m talking about being woken up at 7.15 on my agreed morning off when Mr just happens to fail to stop the girls come charging in to wake me up. I’m talking about being up in the night with Bigger and the cough she had in her mouth and still being up at 6.30. I’m talking about letting someone have a lie in until 10am because of possible wine fever (or sunstroke, either way self inflicted) and then insisting that I had to have a snooze in the afternoon, only to then have to be up an hour later when one woke up because someone had headed off downstairs to play, sorry mend, the model trainset and couldn’t hear anything.

I am so tired. I’m not feeling well. I’m being hassled by work and on top of it all I am not getting my share of sleep.

And what makes it even worse is that someone seems blissfully unaware that they are taking the proverbial and not doing their share.

This is so incredibly not on.

Sleep inequality sucks!
