Sir Gus O'Donnell: Money can't buy you happiness, kids Posted by Emma

From The Telegraph
July 27, 2011

Sir Gus O’Donnell, the Cabinet Secretary, suggested that both children and adults wrongly believed that happiness comes from acquiring “material goods”, when studies have shown that doing things for others is far more satisfying.

His comments came as a national study found that being healthy, maintaining good relationships with family and friends, and having an enjoyable job were the elements of life that mattered most to people.

Last November the Prime Minister announced that a new measure of Britain's progress would be developed to track the nation’s “wellbeing” in addition to traditional economic indicators such as GDP.
