iMama.tv was conceived three years ago by a totally eclectic group of women with one thing in common - we all wanted to do something totally different. Some of us had worked together before, some were friends from college, some were pregnant, some just settling into new parenthood and others old hands. Together we formed a little social co-operative (well there are now 20 of us) to build a totally new type of website - one we could watch rather than read - and iMama.tv, the world’s first video based parenting site, was born. We didn’t want to wait for an employer to bring a work/life balance solution to us so we’ve created it ourselves. And as working women we want to help other parents find the solutions that are right for them whether that’s being a full time mum, negotiating the best possible deal from the corporate world or, like us, take the plunge into setting up for yourself. Like any small child building iMama.tv has been a mixture of hard labour, growing pains and moments of pure bliss but one things for sure - we wouldn’t have missed it for the world! iMama.tv is a completely new type of parenting site because instead of reams of text it is jam packed with video. We have 4,000 short snappy videos covering everything you need to know or could want to ask about being a mum. We firmly feel that seeing is believing - after all, you wouldn’t write a letter to a friend telling her how to change a nappy – you’d show her how.
The site offers best insider information on parenting, easy to use social networking tools and a compulsive guilty pleasure magazine – all on video. We think it’s the first real one stop shop for modern mums.
All our content is topical, entertaining and totally honest about parenting in the 21st century. 'Know Kids' lets you explore the early stages of parenting, through the channels of 'Pregnancy', Birth, Newborn, Baby and Special needs and disability. 'Grown Up World' is all about you and offers channels that will help you in your role as a mother and a woman- from 'Sex and Relationships', 'Work and Money' to 'Food and Fitness'.
Everyone we have filmed for the site (and yes, we are all on there too) is speaking from a first hand point of view so while you might not agree with what they say you can absolutely trust where it’s coming from. It’s their experience from the front line of parenting.
We understand how information hungry and time starved mums are, the last thing you need is an overwhelming information avalanche. Our top class search service means you can look for exactly the right video for you - it’s all incredibly easy to find and quick to watch.
Mums don’t leave their brain or their sense of humour on the delivery room floor. We know you’re more than capable of making up your own mind on the big stuff so we are committed to covering the important issues in a balanced, upfront way – from breastfeeding to potty training and beyond.
Our production team is made up of mums from media backgrounds, film and TV pros and a healthy dose of young people to keep us on our toes, combined with cutting edge technology from leading online video specialists Videojuicer. We don’t preach or judge, set up unrealistic expectations or set agendas. We don’t lull you into a false sense of security or frighten the life out of you. We just want to help mums (and we include ourselves here) discover the sort of mum they want to be, keep up-to-date with the latest news, meet some great people, go shopping and have a laugh.
